To my readers,
Thank you for your support and giving me a creative outlet for my writing. On February 9, 2022, I launched my Substack account and created the tag line, “It Would Be Nice If.” On August 16th I wrote in detail about why I chose that moniker for my writing titled, A message to My Subscribers. I pray patience and please indulge me while I travel down the memory lane of this past year of my writing.
In my inaugural post on February 12th tackled personal branding as it now seems integral to the modern professional landscape. I discussed how changes in working identities progressed over my professional years. In the 80‘s, when I started my career, working for companies was more of an autonomous function. Hard Work and results, unless your one mastered the art of brown-nosing like J. Pierrepont Finch, was how one advanced their career. Creating a personal brand, for work or personal endeavors right out of college would have seemed entirely presumptive and would have had a negative impact on one’s livelihood. For a refresher, here is my first Substack post, The Side Hustle Hustle, where I discuss how the modern business environment has forced workers to transition from autonomy in the workplace to creating a personal brand. Branding, along with achievements, is now the expected norm for advancing one’s career.
For fun, hare are a few stats from my first year on Substack. I have posted 45 articles totaling over 63,000 words or the equivalent of a 240-page novel. I started with zero subscribers in February of 2022 and have now reached nearly 200. Where early on, the subscribers trickled in one at a time after each post, they now come in by the dozens. I appreciate all my followers and thank you for sharing my work!

What would a writer be without a mountain of wadded up paper lobbed at an overflowing waste basket. For amusement, here are some article titles that never made it past the editor and into the wide world of irretrievable internet fodder.
· Grace and Humility are Rarely Bedpartners
· Davos Redux
· When it Comes to Business, You Can be Good or You can be Government
· Sport in a Totalitarian World
· Remember When Bond Villains Were Underground
· The Irony of Communism is That it Failed because of Selfishness
· The Slow Boil Towards Bread Lines
· Apathy is not a Virtue
· A Jealous Government Wants in on the Action
· Capitalism, Natures Individual Algorithm
These failed articles just proves what Immanuel Kant said, “There are many things that I believe that I shall never say. But I shall never say the things that I do not believe.”
Thank you, subscribers, for your support this past year. I look forward to producing more inciteful and hopefully amusing articles. One this is for sure, as long as we live in interesting times, there will never be a shortage of topics that warrant critical attention. Please drop me a line in the comment section with your impression of my first year on Substack.
Cheers!
