This is an excellent piece Bruce and a great metaphor. I will have to think a while about your thesis that Roe vs Wade heralded in the „Age of Me First“ - it‘s an interesting point but given the weakness of that judgement and the urgent need for its reform and clarification along with the sensitivity of the subject itself (I lived through the recent Irish referendum which repealed the draconian abortion laws in this country), I am not sure I would give it the epoch-defining significance you choose to. But you may be correct. Love that you are wisening your scope with your letter and very much enjoy your writing.

Thank you Steven. I am not sure what, or even if, religion has a place in impressing upon the soul a sense of moral obligation. But am am sure that a moral crisis is occurring in Western civilization. I think it is imperative that we pursue a course correction. There is no freedom in a decadent society.

It has a fundamental place. It is cardinal in the sense of everything hingeing on our having a timeless code of conduct around which to construct our identities. I think you would enjoy my friend Prof. Reuben Rose’s Sons of Issachar newsletter here on Substack. He wrote a cracking piece this weekend on exactly that subject and am going to build on it next week.
